Ex-miners Installing Floating Solar Panels
You might remember the ‘black lung’ gag from the film Zoolander but for ex-miners Wenhui and Xiaosi this form of silicosis was a very real threat. The recently re-trained solar installers have a new lease on life as they install floating panels in what will be the world’s largest solar farm in Sungrow’s Guqiao project. Not only is the project a great move towards global sustainability, it’s a perfect example of clean innovation making a positive impact on working conditions for individuals.
“I think the future of this industry is bright, even though I am still just an assembler now,” says Wenhui. “As for my kid, I hope that he can do a job, which is good for his health, can bring him happiness and a steady income.”
