With recent improvements in energy storage technology, Australia’s energy future is looking brighter. One particular location that is benefitting from solar technology is Bruny Island off the coast of Tasmania. This small community built around 40 households is currently trialing a Network Aware Coordination (NAC) platform which uses smart algorithms to control multiple solar and battery installations. The primary strength of this platform is the ability to push power into the local grid when required.

It’s predicted the NAC trial will drastically reduce the island’s reliance on diesel generation during peak periods of demand.  Another benefit will be the empowerment of consumers to become ‘prosumers’, both a producer and consumer of energy.
